History of Holy Rosary Church

The church Land was donated by Mr. George D'Costa in the year 1969 and few catholic families who started to gather in the place and regularly conducted prayer service. Later a small thatched roof chapel was put up. The same donor has donated little land to the Mother Teresa sisters which is present convent now next to the church. Mother Teresa sisters started a convent with an idea of taking care of the elderly people. The Catholics who were working at Yelahanka Air Force station started to gather for the Prayer service and Holy Mass was celebrated frequently. Later they raised some funds to put up a Church and gradually the foundation stone was laid on 07/10/1977 and the New Church was blessed and Inaugurated on 20/12/1978 by late Most Rev. Dr. P. Arokiaswamy, Former Archbishop of Bangalore.

The present Our Lady of Velakanni Church, New Town Yelahanka was Part of this parish, later as the Catholics population grew it was bifurcated and was erected as Separate parish in the Year 1992. The Old Church Model was in an Aeroplane Shape. Later due to fast development of Yelahanka due to present New Airport, catholic population grew and many catholic started to work at the airport and settle in and around the Parish. As people started to come for the mass and there was no enough space for the people to gather inside and they were standing out.

Mr. Ronald Colaco (N.R.I) who is also one of the parishioners came forward to renovate the front portion of the existing church but it was not successful and hence forth the entire old Church was demolished and the foundation for the New Church was laid by Archbishop Bernard Moras on 20/02/2008 and was blessed and inaugurated on 22/04/2012 by Most Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore and thanks to Mr. Ronald Colaco for all his financial support and to all the Parishners and the donors for their valuable support in this endeavour, MSFS Fathers were catering to the spiritual needs of the people till June 2011. In the year in 2011 Archdiocese of Bangalore took over the Parish from the MSFS Fathers and in the month of June, 2011 Archbishop of Bangalore Most Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras has Appointed Rev. Fr. Prem Arockianathan. G as the First Diocesan Parish Priest.
